senior design project - spring 2014

For my senior design project, my group wanted to learn something new. We decided to go with a local company, Cellaflora, LLC., who had brought us a project they were working on. Our group split into two subgroups; one to work on the mobile app and one to work on the website. I was on the web team, and between groupmate Taeha and myself, we designed and built the entire web app from the ground up. We used javascript extensively, utilising AngularJS and Firebase as well. We had no knowledge of either AngularJS or Firebase prior to the project yet we were experts in both by the end of the semester. It turned out very nicely, considering the short timespan we were alotted for the project.

The site is a lightweight content management system type of application, where users are able to create an account and modify parts of the website to suit their needs. Everything is stored in a Firebase database for quick, live changes. The site is geared towards restaurant owners who need a simple site for their establishment.

Feel free to create an account and mess around with the site. If you have any questions or comments please use the contact form below to send me a message.

Quality Lifts internship - summer 2013

In the summer of 2013 I was an intern for Quality Lifts in Louisville, Kentucky. While there, I worked primarily on revamping their website. I worked closely with the Marketing Director to visualize and implement their plans for the new website. After getting the plans set on paper, I took the designs and wrote the code to produce an exceptional product on the web. In doing this, I gained valuable experience learning about the process of creative website design in a corporate environment.

The experience I gained from this internship proved invaluable, as classwork can only teach so much. The real world is quite different from the classroom.

Below are some screenshots of the website I created, with short comments. To visit the website, please click on the link below.

Storefront Solutions - senior project group site - spring 2014

Storefront Solutions is the name of my senior project class group. Everyone in the Computer Graphics Technology program at Purdue is required to take the class, create a product or conduct research, and give a presentation about the project. Our group of four web developers are currently working on the project, which is an online marketing solution package for local mom-and-pop restaurants and shops in the hopes to give them an online presence. We are working with Cellaflora, a local web and app development company, to create this package. Cellaflora will be handling the business side of things, while our group's focus is to create the web and emerging technology components.

The project is currently in progress, but we are working diligently to blow our classmates out of the water. The components we are developing are: a content management system / website template builder for shop owners to easily create a nice looking website, and using iBeacon technology to help gain customers.

One of my responsibilities was creating this website for the group. You can see some screenshots below, or use the links to view the website.

class final project
triple base technology snowboarding - winter 2013

This website was created in the fall semester of 2013 for the class cgt 353 at purdue university as a final project. The class was focused on learning jquery and interactive website design, and the final project had to provide examples of what we had learned. I worked on this site with a friend of mine, Taeha. We are both quite interested in action sports like snowboarding and skateboarding so this project was exciting to work on. Taeha and I wanted to incorporate parallax scrolling into the site from the start which was the biggest obstacle we tackled. By drawing up a preliminary sketch of the site in photoshop we were able to easily implement everything we wanted on the website. Prototyping, wireframes, and mockups really help the process of creating a website.

class project
marc johnson information website - winter 2013

This website was my first project for cgt 353 at purdue. It is a pretty basic site with a few interactive features. Since I had my internship the summer before taking this class, I already had a good grasp of the class content. Making this website was fun because it covered a topic I really enjoy, skateboarding, and was quite open-ended. I did minimal planning for this site, creating only a photoshop mockup.
